The New Jersey Marine Fisheries Management Council met and approved Option 1 for the management of black sea bass. Now that Option 1 is approved, the season will begin on May 27th and go till June 30th with a 15 fish limit; July 1st to July 31st, with a two fish limit; October 22nd to October 31st with a 15 fish limit and November 1st to December 31st with a 15 fish limit. Option 1 also gives a size limit of 12 ½ inches and the total fishing days will be 137. At Thursday’s meeting of the New Jersey Marine Fisheries Management Council, Option 1 for the management of black sea bass was approved.
Option 1 provides for a season from May 27 to June 30 with a 15 fish limit; July 1 to July 31, with two fish limit; Oct. 22 to Oct. 31, with 15 fish limit; and Nov. 1 to Dec. 31 with a 15 fish limit. The size limit for the fish will be 121/2 inches and the total fishing days will be 137.
As for striped bass, the Council approved the slot fish option which allows for bonus tag holders to keep one fish between 24 to 28 inches in addition to the two fish allowed under the latest regulations. The season for the bonus program will begin Sept. 1 and end Dec. 31.
